For The Long View

Write the life down. You decide who reads it.

A memoir with the drafts sealed.

Retirement is when the writing-it-down finally happens. Some people set out to write a memoir for the grandchildren; more simply start recording — the town as it was, the work, the marriage, the war their parents wouldn't discuss, the things nobody else remembers anymore. Once begun, it tends to pour.

The honest version needs privacy while it's being written. A life told truthfully includes chapters that need drafting before you decide who, if anyone, reads them: the first marriage, the estrangement, the regret. Written straight into a shared family document, these chapters come out managed. Written sealed, they come out true — and what to do with the truth becomes a decision you make deliberately, later, chapter by chapter.

The Sealed Journal is built for exactly that shape: everything encrypted and private by default, with deliberate export when — and only when — you choose to hand something on. No subscription to outlive, no company between your record and your family. One payment; the file is yours for the duration, and the duration is the point.

The Typewriter Experience

The cursor stays. The text moves.

In Write mode, your cursor remains exactly at the centre of the screen. The page rises up to meet it. Past words fade into soft shadow at the edges, leaving the present sentence in clear focus. Switch to Read mode and the entry flattens into an evenly lit document — the fade is for writing; the flat light is for returning.

Radical Privacy & Encryption

AES-256-GCM, in your browser, with a key only you derive.

  • ·PBKDF2 key derivation at 600,000 iterations — the OWASP 2024 recommendation. Existing journals upgrade transparently on first unlock.
  • ·No accounts, no telemetry, no analytics, no cookies, no third-party scripts.
  • ·IndexedDB storage with a localStorage fallback. Encrypted before it touches the disk.
  • ·The file is not minified. You can read the source. We'd rather you trust it than us.

What It Does Not Do

  • No word counts chasing you across the screen.
  • No formatting toolbar wrestling your thoughts into neatness.
  • No cloud sync. No distant servers. Your words stay yours.
  • No social sharing. Your vulnerability is not content.
  • No AI assistant finishing your sentences.
  • No streak counters. No guilt. No gamification.
  • No subscriptions. No mood trackers. No noise.

Licensing & Gift Copy

One purchase covers up to three of your personal devices. It also includes a second untouched copy of the file — meant to be given to one person you trust. Lifetime updates. 30-day, no-questions refund. If you run a clinic, school, or workplace and want a copy for everyone, ask us about a site licence.

Questions

I'm not a writer. Does that matter?

A memoir journal isn't literature; it's testimony. Plain sentences about what you saw are precisely what your grandchildren will want. Nobody inherits your prose style — they inherit what you remembered.

How would my family eventually read it?

The export is the whole journal, encrypted; whoever you give it to also needs the passphrase, conveyed now or through your estate. If you'd rather share only some chapters, copy those out by hand into a document you pass on — and let the rest stay sealed, forever if you like.

Is typing in a browser complicated?

It's one file that opens like a webpage, one passphrase, and a page that autosaves. If you can write an email, you can keep this journal.

The cursor will be there when you return.

Centered. Blinking. Patient.
