Practices
Evening pages: emptying the day out.
The day, set down before sleep.
Morning pages get the fame — three longhand pages before the day begins, per Julia Cameron's method. The evening has its own version, less codified and arguably more natural: at the end of the day, you write the day out of your head. What happened, what's unresolved, what you're carrying to bed that you'd rather leave on a page.
There's no word count and no technique. Some evenings it's a paragraph of logistics; some evenings one conversation takes the whole entry. The practice is the emptying — the day gets set down somewhere outside your head, which is often exactly what the 1 a.m. brain was asking for.
The Sealed Journal suits the hour. No feed to fall into on the way to the page, no notifications, nothing to configure at the moment of the day when your patience is thinnest. Open the file, type the passphrase, empty the day, seal it. The entries accumulate into something diaries have always been: a life, recorded one evening at a time.
The Typewriter Experience
The cursor stays. The text moves.
In Write mode, your cursor remains exactly at the centre of the screen. The page rises up to meet it. Past words fade into soft shadow at the edges, leaving the present sentence in clear focus. Switch to Read mode and the entry flattens into an evenly lit document — the fade is for writing; the flat light is for returning.

How is this different from morning pages?
Direction. Morning pages clear space before the day; evening pages close the day out. Same muscle, opposite end. Plenty of people do both in one journal.
What if I fall asleep mid-entry?
Then the entry ends mid-sentence, which is a perfectly honest place for an evening entry to end. It saves as you write.
Does writing before bed actually improve sleep?
We won't make that claim — sleep science is not our product. What the practice reliably does is move the day's residue onto a page. What that does for you is yours to find out.
