For The Displaced

A journal that moves countries the way you do.

One file, any border, no jurisdiction.

Living abroad splits a person gently in two: the one navigating the new country in a second language, and the one narrating it all internally in the first. The narrating one needs somewhere to go. Expats journal a lot — the material writes itself — and what they describe wanting is a fixed point: one thing that stays the same through visa runs, apartment moves, and the third new phone number in two years.

There's also a quieter consideration. Your writing about a country — its bureaucracy, its politics, your workplace — sits differently depending on where the servers are and whose laws reach them. Cloud accounts live in jurisdictions. Some expats, in some places, think about that more than others; the ones who do, really do.

The Sealed Journal is jurisdiction-free by architecture: one file, entries encrypted on your device, no servers anywhere because there are no servers at all. It crosses borders as ciphertext on your own hardware. Home, whatever that currently means, includes your journal.

The Typewriter Experience

The cursor stays. The text moves.

In Write mode, your cursor remains exactly at the centre of the screen. The page rises up to meet it. Past words fade into soft shadow at the edges, leaving the present sentence in clear focus. Switch to Read mode and the entry flattens into an evenly lit document — the fade is for writing; the flat light is for returning.

Radical Privacy & Encryption

AES-256-GCM, in your browser, with a key only you derive.

  • ·PBKDF2 key derivation at 600,000 iterations — the OWASP 2024 recommendation. Existing journals upgrade transparently on first unlock.
  • ·No accounts, no telemetry, no analytics, no cookies, no third-party scripts.
  • ·IndexedDB storage with a localStorage fallback. Encrypted before it touches the disk.
  • ·The file is not minified. You can read the source. We'd rather you trust it than us.

What It Does Not Do

  • No word counts chasing you across the screen.
  • No formatting toolbar wrestling your thoughts into neatness.
  • No cloud sync. No distant servers. Your words stay yours.
  • No social sharing. Your vulnerability is not content.
  • No AI assistant finishing your sentences.
  • No streak counters. No guilt. No gamification.
  • No subscriptions. No mood trackers. No noise.

One purchase covers up to three of your personal devices. It also includes a second untouched copy of the file — meant to be given to one person you trust. Questions

I move devices and countries often — what travels?

The file, and your encrypted exports. Your license covers three devices; entries live per device and move via exports you carry yourself.

Does it work in my language?

You write in whatever language — or mixture — you think in. Entries are plain text; the mid-sentence language switch every expat knows is fully supported by not being noticed.

Is my journal subject to local data laws where I live?

There's no company processing your data anywhere — nothing hosted, nothing transferred. What exists is an encrypted file in your possession, the same in every country.

The cursor will be there when you return.

Centered. Blinking. Patient.
