# The Sealed Journal vs Evernote.

_An archive of everything is a home for nothing._

Evernote taught a generation to clip, scan, and store: receipts, articles, whiteboards, meeting notes, everything searchable, everywhere. Whatever you think of its recent ownership and pricing history, the ambition was real — a second brain with room for all of it.

Which is exactly why a diary suffocates there. An entry written at midnight sits in the same database as your tax receipts and your project notes, subject to the same search, the same sync, the same AI features reading across your account. Privacy in a crowd is not the same as privacy in a locked room.

The Sealed Journal is the locked room. It holds one thing — your journal — encrypted on your machine, indifferent to the rest of your digital life. It will never summarize you.

## Questions

### Can't Evernote work as a journal?

It can store dated notes forever, and searchably. But storage isn't the practice. The practice needs a door you close, and Evernote is a building with the lights always on.

### Don't I lose the power of searching everything at once?

You keep search — within your journal only. Your unguarded 3 a.m. writing shouldn't answer to the same query as your expense reports.

### What about AI features?

There are none. Nothing reads, summarizes, transcribes, or completes your entries. In this category, that is a feature.
