# A private journal for the long Canadian winter.

_PIPEDA and Quebec's Law 25 both regulate organisations that collect personal information. We collect none of your writing, so neither obligation attaches to it._

Canada's privacy regime has two layers most journal users will care about: PIPEDA federally, and Quebec's Law 25, which is the stricter of the two and has been phasing in obligations around consent, portability, and breach reporting. Both frame their duties around organisations that collect, use, or disclose personal information. The Sealed Journal's entries are encrypted in your browser and never transmitted, so there is no collection to consent to, no disclosure to report, and no portability request to service beyond the export button already in the file.

For clinicians in Ontario or British Columbia asking about provincial health-information rules: the journal is not a clinical record system and we do not position it as one. It is a personal, single-user, offline file. A therapist keeping reflective notes in it retains full custody; a client using it between sessions holds the only key. Bilingual writing works the way it should. Type in English, in French, or switch mid-sentence — the file stores Unicode, has no built-in autocorrect, and any browser or OS spellcheck can be turned off in settings. Accents and ligatures survive the round trip through encryption unchanged.

It needs no signal, which matters more here than in most countries. A cabin north of anywhere, a flight between provinces, a streetcar going through a dead zone: once the file is on disk, connectivity is beside the point.

### Does PIPEDA apply?

PIPEDA governs organisations that collect, use, or disclose personal information in commercial activity. We collect none of your journal content, so those obligations do not attach to your entries.

### What about Quebec's Law 25?

Same reasoning, stricter statute. Law 25 regulates the collection and use of personal information by organisations. Your entries are never collected, so there is nothing for it to govern.

### Can I write in French and English in the same entry?

Oui. The file stores plain Unicode with no automatic correction, so franglais, accents, and mid-sentence switching all survive intact.

### Will it work with no cell signal?

Yes. After download the journal is a single local file that makes no network calls. Take it to the cabin.

### Do I pay in Canadian dollars?
