# A journal that isn't observed.

_The one room with the door closed._

Teaching is performed in public. Thirty pairs of eyes all day, then parents, then administrators, then the group chat — a teacher's working life has more audience than almost any other profession, and the parts that most need saying are exactly the parts that can't be said to any of those audiences.

The student you're worried about and the one wearing you down. The parent email you rewrote four times. The lesson that died, the one that flew, the annual question of whether you can keep doing this.
